No Rants Today

Witness this photo of "Mama Sarah, president-elect Barack Obama's step-grandmother" (center, as identified by the NY Times), celebrating Barack Obama's victory.

Ain't it grand? That's about the way I feel today, too.

Vote.

Vote early if you can. Make sure your friends and relatives vote. Volunteer if you've got the time and energy. Give money if you can - yes, Obama's raised a gazillion dollars, but the idea is to win big, so the McCain camp can't whine, scream, mewl and puke while dragging the election outcome into court. You already know these things - so do something about it.

Roy Zimmerman's got the groove on this one. More of his great videos on YouTube - don't miss "Creation Science 101". Here's the link:

p.s. - it's hard to  keep one of these newfangled blogs up to date, isn't it?

God love ya, Joe!

God may love him, but will he be able to control his mouth in the upcoming debate? He might be better off wearing a duct tape gag, nodding and gesticulating in a statesman-like manner while Palin impales herself on her own incoherent blather.

Still, this is dangerous ground:
"He's in a no-win situation," said Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., an Obama backer. "If he stretches out his knowledge and expounds on all the things he knows, he runs the risk of being patronizing. If he is circumspect and is short-winded and deferential, he runs the risk of being patronizing. If he says everything he knows and is tough, he runs the risk of being a bully."  The Associated Press: Style and substance at stake for Biden, Palin
And if he says something incredibly stupid, well, he runs the risk of being the same old Joe Biden - stand up and let everybody see you, Joe!

Congress rising to the occasion!

Mr. McConnell also predicted that Congress would pass rescue legislation. “We will get the job done,” he said. “We will get it done this week. Hopefully, that will reassure the American people that Congress can rise to the occasion, act like grown-ups, if you will, and get the job done for all of our people.”

Do we really need another delusional president?

And one who may be sliding into dementia, too? Here's his comment on the first debate:

“I was a little disappointed the media called it a tie but I think that means, when they call it a tie, that means we win,” McCain said during a telephone call that was caught by cameras filming him at his campaign headquarters.

The Bushies used that as an argument in 2000 - and the Bushies are running this campaign also. Watch out.

Faster, Mommy! Kill! Kill!

Here's Sarah Palin with two other Alaska residents who can see Russia from Alaskan soil on a clear day - Palin's assessment of the foreign policy experience needed to be vice president of the U.S. Unfortunately, these two don't qualify to run; one due to age requirements, the other due to, hmmm, an untimely death.

My apologies to Piper (I'm guessing she's the little girl), who can't help being along for the ride.

What the hell is a "toxic asset"?

That's right, a "toxic asset" is really a "worthless asset", which is what all these mortgage based derivative scams turned out to be - worthless.

Not surprisingly, the clowns most responsible for this meltdown have jumped on this euphemism with delight, and the press doesn't seem to be questioning it. Why make rich, powerful people take responsibility for what they've done when you can sidestep it by making up new, exciting, meaningless descriptions?

You don't ingest assets. They don't poison you, or burn your skin. You buy and sell them, and if they become worthless, they really shouldn't be bought or sold anymore. But that's what our government is proposing to do - buy these "assets" with our money.

Aren't you tired of these pathetic euphemisms? More to the point, aren't you tired of this incompetent administration? I know I am.

Got Your Passport?

If you aren't one of the rabid evangelical christian nation, be prepared to flee, because there's not a lot of room in their world view for the rest of us - separation of church and state isn't likely to be a high priority. This video shows Sarah Palin receiving a blessing that covers campaign finance and protection against witchcraft. Filmed shortly before she ran for governor of the great state of Alaska.
